CREATING THE HIVE
Hawthorn Hive's values are based in the hive mind mentality honoring collaboration and community which
began as a small private practice for Art Therapist Kari L. de Boer in 2019. Kari has dedicated over 15 years working as Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Art Therapist in Michigan before moving her hive to Traverse City summer 2021. Kari believes that people are innately driven to achieve wholeness. Encouraging clients to actively listen to their minds and bodies, Kari creates a warm atmosphere of safety. She currently focuses her practice on easing life transitions, sudden or unexpected change, social emotional learning and school issues, work life balance and life's overall stresses supporting clients. Kari holds space for clients as they do the transformative work of identifying their growth areas and empowering their curiosities.
During the global pandemic Kari took time to pause and reflect on how to move forward in a way to honor her authentic self. Kari found her center by immersing herself full time into the functional art of pottery. She is also the proud owner of Cicada Ceramics where she enjoys teaching others and creating functional art such as vessels, candles, and ceramic garden art. Kari is also a registered yoga teacher and certified mindfulness teacher and shares her love of meditation and the yogic lifestyle with her clients. She is an active member in the local yoga community teaching in several locations in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties. She also provides weekly karma (free) yoga classes in her community and volunteers at Michael's Place and TCAPS schools in her free time. In 2023, Kari became certified by Rainbow Kids Yoga. She is excited to offer services to her community on a case by case basis. She stays active with her partner and their children hiking and paddling along the lake shore with their poodles Pixie and Bodhi.
