CREATING THE HIVE

Hawthorn Hive is founded on the principles of the hive mind, honoring the power of collaboration and community. Established by Kari L. de Boer in 2019, the practice grew from Kari’s 15 years of dedicated work as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Art Therapist in Michigan. In 2021, she brought this vision to Traverse City, creating a space where clients are gently supported in their journey toward wholeness. Kari’s practice is grounded in the belief that we are all inherently drawn to healing and growth. By fostering a compassionate and safe environment, she invites clients to listen deeply to their minds and bodies as they navigate life’s transitions, embrace change, and seek balance.

Amid the stillness of the global pandemic, Kari found solace and clarity by immersing herself in the mindful art of pottery, leading to the creation of Cicada Ceramics. Through this, she continues to explore the beauty of functional art, sharing her passion with others. A registered yoga teacher and certified mindfulness instructor, Kari integrates these practices into her work, offering meditation and yoga as pathways to deeper awareness and connection. Committed to service, she provides karma yoga classes and volunteers at local non profits and schools, nurturing her community with presence and care. In 2023, she expanded her offerings through certification with Rainbow Kids Yoga, providing tailored support to her community. Outside her practice, Kari cherishes time with her partner, children, and their poodles, Pixie and Bodhi, finding joy in nature’s rhythm along the lakeshore.
